In 1778, during the War of Independence, the Marine Corps Rose was dedicated to those Marines who made the Ultimate Sacrifice for their country. This tradition was continued by the French during World War l when Roses were planted, by the grateful French people, ON the graves of the Marines who lost their lives during the battle of Beleau Wood,

The Choctaw Detachment holds a Rose Day Fund Raiser omce a year. Donations are used primarily to assist veterans and youth in our community but may be used for local humanitarian aid in response to emergencies. Some of our regular activities involve providing honors ceremonies at Marine Burials,. visiting/supporting local veterans at the Baton Rouge VA clinics and Veteran’s Retirement Homes, running flag programs at local schools and participating in Eagle
